Bringing It All Together:
What’s at Stake for Students?

At CheckIT Learning, we believe that every technological innovation must be designed with people at its heart. From day one, we have prioritized responsible design and development, ensuring that every innovation we bring forward aligns with ethical principles and real educational impact.

Our approach is built on rigorous processes that uphold transparency, security, and the responsible use of AI. We are dedicated to creating evidence-based EdTech solutions that are not only safe but also impactful, tools that genuinely support learners, educators, and communities.

Every step we take is rooted in our conviction that when developed responsibly, technology becomes a catalyst for growth, empowerment, and lifelong learning.

Our Global Impact and Collaboration

Beneficial AI for Children Banner

At CheckIT Learning, we're proud to be part of the Beneficial AI for Children Coalition, an global initiative dedicated to promoting ethical AI practices worldwide. We actively collaborate with experts, governments, businesses, Non Governmental Organizations and educators to shape the global dialogue around AI ethics, recognizing that artificial intelligence is transforming our world, especially for children whose brains are still developing. AI has the potential to significantly support education and cognitive growth, yet it can also pose risks if misused or not tailored to their needs. That's why we believe that combining technological innovation with a deep understanding of human development is essential.

Certified for Responsible AI in Education

Responisibility designed AI ceriticate

We're excited to announce that CheckIT Learning has earned the Responsibly Designed AI certification from Digital Promise, validating our unwavering commitment to ethical AI practices in educational technology. This prestigious certification, developed collaboratively with nearly 40 education and edtech leaders, establishes clear standards for responsible AI implementation in learning environments. As part of the inaugural group of certified products - we're honored to be recognized for meeting rigorous criteria around data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and transparent design practices. This certification helps school administrators and educators identify tools they can trust when introducing AI into their classrooms. For our team, this achievement represents more than recognition - it confirms our foundational belief that AI-powered learning tools must be developed ethically, with evidence-based approaches and student outcomes at the center. The certification process has strengthened our commitment to creating technology that supports equitable learning experiences for all students. We're proud to be part of a growing movement of education technology providers prioritizing responsibility and transparency as AI becomes increasingly integrated into teaching and learning environments.

CHECKIT RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations for Responsible Use of AI in Education

At Checkit Learning, we are committed to the responsible, developmentally appropriate use of AI in education.

All closed AI features—such as accessibility tools, study skills supports, and interactive vision boards—are available to students k-12 and universities.  These features use structured, choice-based interactions, helping students build self-regulation and executive functioning skills, without replacing teacher guidance.

For conversational AI, involving open-ended dialogue and generative responses, we recommend implementation starting no earlier than high school (ages 14-15). This approach aligns with research on adolescent brain development:

  • The prefrontal cortex—essential for decision-making and self-regulation—matures significantly during adolescence.
  • Metacognitive abilities improve in early to mid-adolescence, allowing for more critical engagement with AI.
  • Younger children are more prone to suggestibility and anthropomorphism, making early use of conversational AI higher risk.

Final implementation decisions are left to individual schools and districts, allowing for flexibility based on local context and student readiness. However, we advocate for an evidence-based approach aligned with child and adolescent brain development to maximize positive educational impact while safeguarding student well-being.

Important Considerations for High School Use:

We recognize that adolescents remain vulnerable to social and motivational pressures:

  • The teen brain is highly responsive to instant rewards and social validation, which can lead to over-reliance on AI and reduced engagement in real-life learning and relationships.
  • Without guidance, AI risks becoming a shortcut, undermining critical thinking and self-efficacy.

What Checkit Learning Does to Support Healthy AI Use:

  • Built-in Educational Scaffolding: AI prompts reflection, self-monitoring, and positive learning habits rather than providing quick answers.
  • Bias and Safety Monitoring: We use human and automated oversight to ensure fair, accurate, and safe AI responses.
  • Transparency and Awareness: Students are informed they are interacting with AI, with built-in guidance on ethical and responsible use.
  • Research Partnerships: We collaborate with neuroscientists, psychologists, and educators to update our tools in line with the latest research.

We Encourage Schools to:

  • Use structured frameworks and clear use cases for AI.
  • Model healthy digital habits and reinforce human connections.
  • Provide ongoing educator involvement and oversight to ensure AI is used as a learning amplifier, not a replacement for effortful thinking.
